Does Your Timing Belt Need Replacing?
The timing belt / cambelt is the most important serviceable component of your car’s engine. It’s function is extremely important and that is to control the camshafts in the engine and keep it running smoothly.
However, if left unchanged or if it is prematurely worn (due to excessive exposure to dust, sand, or salt for example) and it breaks, it can be very costly. This is why it’s important to have periodic inspections of your timing belt and replace it according to the manufacturer’s recommended change interval for your particular vehicle (or earlier if required).
Timing belt change intervals can range from 45,000km to 150,000km or 3-5 years, depending on the make and model of your vehicle.
Failure to replace a timing belt within the recommended change interval (or when prematurely worn) can lead to a slipped or stretched belt, which can result in retarded engine timing, a lack of power or pick up, and a dull rattling noise when the vehicle is idle.
The worst case scenario is for a timing belt to snap, which in many cases requires a new engine or engine build costing hundreds if not thousands of dollars and in some cases (especially with older vehicles) the cost of repair may well exceed the car’s value. Fortunately, this situation can be avoided with regular car servicing.
When was the last time you had your timing belt checked or replaced?

10 Reasons Why You Should Regularly Service Your Car!
1) To Ensure the Safety of Yourself, Your Passengers and Others on the Road.
The main reason for servicing your car or motorbike on a regular basis is to ensure that you, your family, and others are safe while traveling on the road.
Although there are many causes of automotive crashes, neglecting to maintain the sound functioning of your vehicle can certainly be a contributing factor. Faulty steering and braking systems, improper fluid levels, worn windshield wipers, insufficient tread on your tyres, and other vehicle-related problems can cause serious and sometimes fatal accidents.
Taking your car in to a qualified and reputable Gold Coast mechanic for regular servicing to ensure that everything is working properly can go along way to preventing incidents like these.
2) To Prevent Costly and Inconvenient Malfunctions.
Standing next to your car stranded on the side of the road is not how you want to find out that you have a problem with your car or motorbike.
With a poorly serviced vehicle, roadside emergencies like this could happen at any time without obvious warning. What’s more, is you may not have the tools or the expertise to fix the problem.
When you factor in the costs of towing, hiring a mechanic, and finding a temporary vehicle while yours is being repaired it can really add up, not to mention cause you much unwanted stress. Fortunately, problems like these can be largely avoided with regular servicing and maintenance.
Take action to prevent vehicle malfunctions like this by servicing your car on a regular basis. Mechanics can find problems and fix them before they become bigger problems, saving you from roadside emergencies and accidents.
3) To Increase The Overall Performance of Your Vehicle.
Keeping an eye on your car’s fluids, oil, and internal mechanics decreases internal wear and increases dependability and overall vehicle performance. A well-maintained automobile will provide for a more responsive, smoother ride, allowing you to get the most out of your vehicle.
4) To Maximize The Fuel Efficiency.
A great concern for vehicle owners is the amount of fuel their car uses.
A vehicle running at a lesser efficiency will waste fuel and the money you used to pay for it. Scheduling your vehicle for tune-ups and changing the oil on a regular basis will ensure that your car is saving you as much money as possible.
5) To Prolong or Extend the Life (Safe Usability) of Your Car.
Routine maintenance prevents malfunctions, increases performance and fuel efficiency, and lengthens the life of your car. Regular servicing and repair ensures that your car is in tip-top shape, and when your vehicle is in top condition it will last longer, adding years of use for you and less stress on your car.
6) To Reduce Pollution & The Environmental Impact of Your Car.
Your vehicle can have a tremendous negative impact on the environment.
Noxious emissions come from improperly serviced vehicles which can harm the environment by contributing to pollution, smog, contaminated waterways, and acid rain.
7) To Lower the Overall Cost of Owning and Operating Your Vehicle.
You may think that periodically servicing your car is an unnecessary expense. Think again.
A well-maintained vehicle can actually lower the cost of operation by avoiding major malfunctions that can end up costing you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. What’s more, a broken-down vehicle can ruin your day. It can make you late for work, late for a date, or even spoil a holiday.
Booking your car service appointments in advance (based on your vehicle’s approved service schedule) allows you to factor the costs into your budget and also choose appointment times that fit in with your busy schedule.
8) To Create a Maintenance Record & Help Preserve Your Vehicle’s Value.
A maintenance record helps prove your vehicle has been regularly serviced and hasn’t had any major problems which preserves resale value and maintains your warranty.
Warranties often require a certain amount of service checks to ensure validity, so scheduling maintenance visits is in your best interest.
9) To Potentially Increase The Resale Value of Your Car.
Keeping your vehicle in the best possible shape is extremely important if and when you decide to sell or trade it in at your local dealership.
Potential buyers will be looking at the physical condition of the car, how well it performs, and whether or not the log book is up to date.
A well-maintained vehicle will not only sell for a higher price but will also be easier to sell.
10) To Give Yourself Peace of Mind.
Last but not least, a comprehensive service from our highly trained automotive technicians guarantees you peace of mind.
You can enjoy your motoring with confidence, knowing that whatever the conditions or distance, your vehicle has been serviced and maintained using genuine parts that have been professionally fitted by experts who are passionate about what they do.
If you’re not currently having your car serviced regularly and consistently (as per the approved service schedule for your particular vehicle) it’s never too late to start. After all, can you really put a price on yourself and your family’s safety?
